Mathew26 wrote:Hey guys those Topsonline tops are good quality material (as Haartz always has been). I have personally looked at them versus a few other tops. Some things I've noticed that you may want to be aware of...
1. the stitch per inch count is on the lower side compared to other tops
2. the rear window was stitched in rather than heat seal&glue (i'm sure there was some glue though)
3. the flap that sits to the top of the door windows is cloth rather than vinyl, which means if you get caught in the ran it will leak

I can't speak for the rest but the tops out there but the one I have has the same HAARTZ cloth material for the flaps. I've had it in heavy rain 3 or 4 times now and it hasn't leaked at all.

I'm sure it's not going to last as long as a $500 top but then again it's half the price, looks great, and has a 5 yr warranty. I look at it this way... the plastic window is going to go before anything else so your probably going to replace the $500 top after 10-12 years if your lucky anyway. If you get 5+ yrs out of a $250 top its a wash.

And, if the cheapo top disintegrates after a year of use then, well... lesson learned. :D

Never heard of them.

I got mine a few years back from world upholstery and am not happy with it. The carpet is extremely thin. I would go online and order some Edead. Really insulate the car. I would do the whole floor. Then the cheap carpet backing. They sell it at pep boys in 8ft section. cost about 15.00. Then lay the carpet down.

OK, will do, thank you. I also ordered some POR15. I will clean and prep the floor before I lay down anything. I found 3 rust spots that I will fix before doing the POR15, the Edead, and the carpet.

I just received a Robbins vinyl top and am very pleased with the quality. I have not installed it as yet so no idea what the fit will be like. It does have a nice heavy duty window and also comes with a big chunk of spare vinyl.

I have a Robbins vinyl top that the PO bought at least 10 years ago. The car was sitting in an open carport for six years before I bought it (with the top up) and the window is still perfect and the top has no wear, cracks, or problems, other than a little wear on the piping at the top of the driver's window. IIf all their vinyl tops are as good, then I'm impressed.

Looking at our top, the fabric is coming off the front bow, and this bow looks a little rusty. Will we need a new one, or is there something that can be done? We are going to order a new top, but wanted to see if we also needed a new bow. The latches and frame are in good shape otherwise. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Depends on how rusted out it is... I am using some epoxy mixed with metal dust product to fixed a cracked engine block. That product can be used to patch holes and, once dried, grind it down to shape.

I also got today the stuff from POR-15 and in their catalog they are selling an epoxy clay bar. Cut the portion you need (two bars), mixed and apply to the damage area, again, once dry you can shape it down and paint over it....

And no, not my company, no quota, not affiliated, no commissions, blah blah blah... just one satisfied customer. I have made bushings out of that epoxy bar that I could not find anywhere (this was for a friends Renault R5 Turbo where the shift linkage had issue due to broken bushings)...

As mentioned in my main thread, got the carpet set and the top.

Top looks great. Came package in a double box, well protected, with paper and bubble wrap protecting the plastic window. Very nice...

A few photos and I must start with the precious cables

The flap that prevents (or minimizes) water getting in is also made from canvas. It has some filling in there, I am guessing that it is for a better seal against the window.

These are the pieces that wrap around the bows:

I was probably better off cutting my own carpet set... but I just did not wanted to deal with sewing the borders... A few photos of the carpet set:

How did the carpet work out for you? I'm thinking of ordering the ready set as well (in beige).

Was tempted to do it myself, though mold it to contour the inside and attach it.

Did you put down noise canceling / carpet backing after your POR15 ?

On the to-do list... have not started this. And yes, the plan is to put some sound deadening material after the POR15, as recommended here, before I install the carpet set.

I have a Canvas top from Duetto Motors on my '69. It's a very high quality top. I highly recommend them.

I have a Vinyl top from Diamondmall on my '80. It fits well, but all the seams pulled apart and leaks like a sieve.
