We have no Hazard light Switch

I'm hoping someone has an answer for this one...

We just bought a 1981 Fiat Spider, been trying to run down the electrical issues while we are waiting on the new fuel tank.

The headlights are now working (Thanks for all the help in that one guys), but we have no running lights, turn signals or brake lights.

If I'm reading this board correctly this all goes through the Hazard light switch, and while I've found how to bypass it, we apparently do not have on at all, or anything resembling one. This is what we found after we took off the aftermarket stereo box:



Can someone tell me where the hazard switch wiring might be?

The hazard switch is in the upper console, under where the radio would be. If you have no upper console, the wiring must be in there somewhere. As the picture of mine shows, it's a round connector. In amongst a mass of wires in front of your heater core.

This looks like it. Pull the top of the wire loom down from above to see the end.

as I recall, that switch is in the dash face not the middle console. Running lights and brake lights don't go through the hazard switch, just the turn signals. I'd check fuses first

On the 2000 Spiders, they moved it to the middle console across from the cigar lighter.

hmmm, I believe some years had the switch in the dash rather than the middle console

Your probably right Mark, Maybe the 79-80 Carb. versions had it in the center dash. I just saw that he listed his as a '81, and the Fuel Injecteds had theirs on the middle console.

Irregardless of where the hazard switch was originally, a PO had cut the pigtail for it and taped off all the wires, we figured out how to bypass it, thanks to all the great advice here

Frozen wipers are a common problem. Do a search and there are threads on it with more info.

Update on the wipers...we were able to get them unfrozen, but....(you knew that was coming right), the motor is toast...it looks like somebody tried to force something and stripped the gears...

The local autozone has one that can be ordered for around $80, is that the best deal out there or does someone know of a better price or alternate motor?

Just a quick update

The water pump will be here today, the gas tank tomorrow, and the new wiper motor should be here Thursday.

Maybe we'll actually be able to pull it out of the driveway Friday

Just wanted to give an update...

Thanks to the advice and threads on this board...the car is running like a charm (knock on wood)!

After we got all the little bugs worked out we found out the alternator wasn't producing more than 9 volts so we ended up replacing it (the original is being rebuilt as we speak, so we have a spare).

One thing I noticed on the alternator, that doesn't seem to be posted...we used the alternator off of our 74 Javelin, it's a generic 55 amp Napa alternator and the only thing is, you have to flip it upside down, but it fits and works well (I think we paid around 50 bucks for it).

Has anyone else done this?
