Touch up paint

Postby garryness » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:23 am

I have a red 1980 spider that I want to touch up a few stone chips on. Can anyone tell me if there is a touch up paint available and where I can buy it?

Cheers

This sounds crazy, but for the tiniest touch up spots, and especially if it is not a show car, Rustoleum Red (enamel in a small can) is very, very close! (On my car, anyway) The many years and resprays may make this not true for others.

This is where I got my touchup paint. https://www.automotivetouchup.com/

My gosh it was correct. But mine was in the engine bay so no fading. With red you might be faded.

My red was so bad that it was mistaken for orange red the first year. Not kidding. But it apparently was just dry, because I didn't compound it. Instead I used Meguiars "cleaner wax" coat after coat after coat, and it brought the red right back. Was really surprised, but it did it.

This stuff, amazing imho: http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/p ... wax-paste/

I took my gas cover to an automotive paint store. They use a camera to take pictures and the process /analysis gives them the paint colour. Then using the computer they make up the paint colour and you can buy it in a spraycan. Takes a day but my touch up look very good and yes it was red paint.

Thanks guys.

I managed to track some down on e-Bay...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/FIAT-136F-RED-CHERRY-Stone-Chip-Paint-Scratch-kit-Brush-Scratch-Repair/300448061055?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I used it today and its a great match as my paint is still pretty fresh
