1979 Owners Manual

Postby dinghyguy » Thu Nov 09, 2017 12:53 pm

As the weather gets cold and snow appears on the mountain working in the unheated dungeon appeals less and less. So I thought I would do some more searching on the internet and in the forums. Specifically I am looking for a copy of the owners manual for a 1979 caurburated spider. Looking on the other forums and searching around I found a 1981 FI manual in PDF (thanks Mirafiori library section) and there are historical posts on this forum with links that go nowhere for a 1979, but nothing actually correct.
I do have a partial, bad B&W copy of what I think is the right manual, but I cant be sure since it has no cover.
Anyhow I decided perhaps the best thing is to make one using the text from the bad copy and as many of the figures from the good one as possible. (yes I know M-B will sell me one, but the cost is too high for me, although it does look nice, I saw it this summer)
At the moment I have OCR'd the text, transfereed most of it to Word, copied most of the figures across and am in process of formatting the document but I would like some feedback from you all:
Do I update the document to include the 1981 improvements in areas like timing check and tire changing?
Do I update the document for current lubricants etc?
Do I add descriptions for things like headlight and wiper relays where they have been added?
Do I rationalize the titles and fonts through the document so I can properly generate a table of contents?
Do I add a lubrication points/frequency chart? If so does anyone have one or do I need to go through the shop manual?

I have corrected the spelling errors as I go and I am thinking of adding a section at the back for revisions/changes to the car.
I don't want to make the manual totally specific to my car, since I am thinking it would be good to post somewhere and then others can use, thus the idea of having all the mods at the end of the document so people can make all their changes in one location.

Any other comments, please send.
Oh and if any one has a color PDF with a good white background I can copy the figures from that would be appreciated.

And finally where to I put the document when I am done so you all can make use of it? sample pages shown below.

I look forward to the responses.

I've got one (I think).

Unfortunaly, the person putting them together was drunk, and I have
two of some pages, and none of the other.

I have the entire manual scanned,...including the front and rear covers. Includes the California Supplement.
HUGE .jpg files at 600 dots per inch.
It cannot be sent by private messaging here.
If you check your fiatspider.com Private Messages, you'll find my email address. Send an email to me, and I will begin sending you the files. They'll be full size, so that you can re-size, or edit, them as you'd like.
I'm glad that I can share these with someone who needs them. And perhaps there are others that only want a copy of this manual,...

Perhaps someone here knows if, and how, I can post the whole manual to the forum,...any ideas, need, or desire for that to happen?
Todd.

I believe that the only files that can be presented here are .jpgs,...pictures. And only through a hosting service.
I don't know of a way to post a .pdf or even a .zip file here.
Maybe with the hosting service??? Humm,...

Are you a member of Mirafiori.com?? If so you might be able to post it there. They have a great technical library for members of their Fiat chat room.

It cannot be posted to a hosting service, so I'll check out the prospects of posting it via MiraFiori.com (is that 'look at my Fiat'? Mira,...). Anyway, I'll send it one page at a time, for now.
Todd.

Bradley Artigue, got back to me, so I will get the manual up on Mirafiari one way or another.

thanks to todd,

Please send me page 48, even though it is blank, so I can insert and stop the inevitable question.
