How to install this trim?

Postby zachmac » Wed Oct 25, 2017 6:57 pm

Has anyone installed this piece of rubber trim before? Called a "cap" and it is supposed to finish off the top of the window channel on the back side of the vent window channel. My car is missing them so I don't get how they install let alone are retained?

Do I need to disassemble the vent window assembly to do it correctly?

Not sure how to install them (yet) Jeff, but I'd sure like to know where you got them. I'm missing one and the sharp edge on top of the window trim keeps getting caught on the convertible top and I can't open the door without unsnapping the top bracket.

Vick's has them, part number 81-3328 but I'll warn you they are proud of them at 13.04 USD each. I like to rest my left hand there when driving and I'm tired of the sharp metal on my hand so I sprung for them. I for one NEVER put the top up! :D

You have to pull the glass rubber seal off around the window frame, then grind off the old tab, (which sits inside the frame) take it off, then insert the new one from outside the frame bend it over and either rivet it on or spot weld it. have fun :D

Thanks, Jeff/ I very rarely put the top up either - but on nice (i.e. non rainy) days during the winter up here I like getting the old girl out for a bit of a run. Because it's cold, I don't like putting the top down - hard on the back window - so I leave it up. Don't like having to crack the top to get out of the car when I get home, though.
