Noisy tappet

Postby Jimb » Mon Oct 30, 2017 2:16 pm

It sounds like a noisy tappet...closest to the firewall... that lasts only for few minutes until it's warm.
This just started. Is this unusual?

I'll venture an answer,...
Yes, Jimb, it is unusual.
Sounds like you may have developed excessive lash in one of your valves. The sound disappears as the parts warm and expand,...
Just my guess.
You could check your rear valve clearances,...you may need to swap for a thicker 'tappet plate' on one of your valves.
I hope this helps! Good luck.

On mine it was due to sticky valves, valve guides and tappets.
I added a bottle of Marvel Mystery oil in the oil at oil change and also a bottle in the fuel tank at fill up.
The noise went away after 300 to 400 miles of highway driving.

I absolutely agree with Fiatracertracer,...Marvel is certainly worth a try. It's good stuff and will not hurt your engine. Sure hope it will solve your tappet noise! Good luck.
