Cooling System Diagram

Postby gjones1967 » Mon Dec 18, 2017 11:26 pm

hi,

the car I have (79) has had the heater bypassed. I am looking to put the whole cooling system back as it should be. This includes the carburetor cooling inlet/outlet. I have a bunch of different parts to be able to do it but I need a good diagram as the manual is not so clear. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I'll get pics from the shop manual and my car tomorrow AM.
Sorry, I was replacing rear axle components this eve, otherwise I would have posted some pictures for you.

Looks like I was beat to it. gjones1967, did you get what you need, or do you need further pics, or more shop manual info?

I do actually have that picture in the manual. Unfortunately I can't see what I need. I will try and explain. I took off the smog system, and can see that from the back of the head, the small hose goes into the choke and then out and tees into the heater inlet. I can't see where the heater outlet pipe leads to. I think my understanding thus far is correct but tell me different if I'm wrong.

I just went thru this myself. If you look at the firewall on the passenger side you will see the two hoses that go in and come out of the heater. The hose on the left should be connected to the hoses in the top of the head. The hose on the right goes to the water pump tube and also tees off and goes to the carb if you decide to use it that way. If you decide to put at filler tee which I would recommend it will be in the line from the head to the heater. I hope this helps if you would like a pic of mine you can pm me and I will send you one. I just get the picture download to work on this site.

Just as brackie1 said. (BTW, brackie1,...you'll need to upload to an imaging hosting site and copy/paste the 'code for forums' from each picture here)
Pics of what brackie1 refers to:
You can see the 'T',...

And here's the lines to the choke,...

I sure hope this helps! Please let me know if you need more, gjones1967.

thanks all. I got that taken care of, started up the car and tried to drive it (having just replaced all the brake caliper) but the engine has a bottom end rattle. I am going to have to rebuild it. I have a spare engine which I am trying to identify. The engine number seems to be hidden by the alternator and is not in the same place as the one I have been working on. I am trying to figure out which one would be best to rebuild. The two cars I bought seem to be a mish mash, the complete car is a 79 but has an 1800 engine. The rolling shell is a 1980 chassis but not sure about the engine, will dig deeper tomorrow.

any advice on rebuilding the bottom end would be appreciated. I'm ok with the top end.
Graeme Jones.
