She's a beauty.
Is red going to be the final colour for the undercarriage?

Jim

Hi Jimb

Yes, Red is the final color. it's Italian has to be red somewhere?

Finally Transmission and engine are back where they belong. Next is the front suspension.

I just found this thread! Love your work!

The restoration on my 80 Spider is just beginning and I am trying to decide whether to restore or just make it a nice daily driver. I do all my own mechanical work, but have no experience welding. I've heard its not that hard if you get the right equipment. What do you use for your welder, and how long did it take for you to become proficient at it?

Hi Familyman
Here is my welder. Practiced for a week on scrap metal went through 1 spool of wire for practice. also tried to strength test all welds(big Hammer and a engine hoist) to make sure penetration was correct and held. Make sure no rust in metal. fiat steel easy to melt thru, modern steel is better but watch match up with old steel. Its not too hard to learn. good luck

I too, am late to this party!......I am in awe of the scope of the rebuild and the attention to detail. not to mention the quality of the work. I noticed the shaved door handles.... what are the plans to open the doors? electro poppers?

You work so fast! It looks like you'll be driving soon. Beautiful. We all want to know about the red piece between your cam covers.

I was not aware the vinegar could remove rust. Is this any vinegar, and if not, where do you get it?

Hi Familyman
Yes, regular vinegar @Target $1.15 per gal. Totally dissolves rust, depending on how rusty the part is, could take up to 5 days to completely dissolve. Part has to be totally immersed into the vinegar. Then just wash under tap water with a stiff brush. You must treat the bare metal right away or wire wheel it to stop it from reforming rust. some example photos
