adjustable timing gears

Postby geospider » Mon Aug 07, 2017 9:39 pm

Hey guys,
having my head redone, long story involving a hole in the top of the head and some JB weld. Thank god I got another head from the PO.
Great machine shop here doing the valve job, including cleaning and reinstalling the cam boxes and setting the lash.
read a lot about adjustable timing gears. Why? I am assuming to just make it easier to fine tune everything. With a stock motor, what is benefit?

thanks,

Geo

None except if you plane your block or head.

The distance between cam and crank will be change so the timing will change also. Adjustable cam gear will allow you to time the cams on the marks.

I see. I guess I am not sure how they actually work.
More research.
They may then be required depending on the head work done.

Put your money somewhere else if you keep your stock cams.

Thanks Until the smog laws in this state change. There is no sense in doing anything fun with the engine after 1975.
