Fuel injectors

Postby Spider951 » Mon Nov 27, 2017 11:01 pm

I just pulled fuel injectors and rail from an '82 124 engine that I'm thinking of putting in my '81 Spider 124. Fuel injectors show 0280-150-121 (presumably Bosch), pretty bad condition. But I read somewhere that OE for the '82 engine was 0280-150-127. I can't find -127's listed on several Bosch injector charts. Questions: (1) Is there any difference in 121's vs. 127's, i.e. is this worth fretting over? (2) Bosch injectors seem mostly to be sold as remanufactured unless $$$$ spent for OE new ones; so, buy remans or new, or just buy aftermarket, e.g. Beck/Arnley, etc. and forget Bosch?; (3) flow rates for above-mentioned 0280-150-121 injectors shown commonly on charts as 191 cc/min @3bar down to 178 cc/min @3 bar pressure, yet most vendors show 145 cc/min @? bar if flow is given; again, is this a worry ? (possibly handled by regulator anyway?). [I know L-jet is not very complex compared to newer systems- none of this may be worth the worry]. Thanks

Not sure I'd lose too much sleep over this one. The FI on the Fiat is really simple and adjustments can be made by the O2 sensor in operation. I believe I replaced mine with re-man units from Autoricambi.

Thanks for the info. Pete, that chart you have is much more detailed than the ones I found.

-121 is the Bosch p/n for injectors on '80-82 Spiders. -127 was used on '83-85. What's the difference? Could be as little as the length of attached hose or the the number of holes in the spray tip. The -127 injectors were also used on Alfa Spiders of the same years and it could just be a matter of convenience that PF decided to use the same part in both cars to simplify stocking of spares. "Remanufacturers" often group five or ten different injector part numbers under one remanufactured part number and let you supply your own hose to whatever length is needed on your rail.

Injector performance can only be judged after they have been cleaned and both flow rate and injector spray pattern have been tested. Send them to one of the many outfits that do injector cleaning and let them clean, test and replace the stub hoses. The odds are high that all four can be returned to service. They seldom wear out. The search function on this website will locate any number of cleaning service recommendations for you.

I used OK Injectors awhile back and they were good . Turn around was fast, price reasonable, and provided test reports for each injector. Dont forget the CSI too.
