it's funny you mention that 'cause I'm doing that exact thing on the aeriostyle forum. i've set up a shop on cafepress.com (shirts, mugs, hats, mousepads, baby onesies, license plate frames, etc etc) and put a 5% markup on everything and the proceeds are going to the forum. 5% is just enough so that people don't feel they should make their own shirts, but also large enough that the forum can actually make something to help.
Right now we are talking about what we should do with the very small proceeds. to save myself some retyping, one idea I had was:
...we could have an author of some book on performance mods, or autocross racing, or something automotive related on here and then people who ask questions would automatically be entered into a drawing to win said Author's book. Questions could all be submitted to the moderators and edited/tossed out depending on appropriateness, but we could still allow all questions to be an entry, I mean the author might not even be able to answer all questions given time, whatnot.
just an idea, i've seen some other bigger sucessful forums do things like that....
